I am happy to announce that Sabrina Manning returns as head swim coach for her 4th season along with coaches Matt Normile and Bert Shilling. These coaches offer were selected because of their swimming/coaching experience, stroke expertise, their love of the kids and coaching style. Plus they are a winning coaching team! The coaches are looking forward to seeing the whole team return, as well as recruiting new faces for 2008! Swimming is a great way to get started with the perfect "life sport". From 5-105 swimming knows no age limit! Our swimmers build skills and understanding of the four competitive strokes, they are part of a strong team and have loads of fun! The practice schedule keeps a great "school-like" routine, the conditioning is a great for other sports, and it is the perfect arena for ALL levels to achieve their personal best while contributing to the team effort. Every swimmer can leave a meet as a winner just by beating their own best time! IHC swimmers won the Seven Hills Swim Championship last summer so we’re aiming for a three-peat this year. Each swimming family is required to fill 3 volunteer slots during the season to make meets work. It is fun to help out and be “on deck” to see your Wahoos in action and up close. Because of safety concerns swim team members must be able to swim one length of the lap pool (any stroke and any combination) and be able to stay afloat/tread water for 30 seconds.
The Seven Hills League Swim Championships are at Normandy on Wed/Thurs July 9th & 10th. To qualify for Championships a swimmer must attend 2 meets. So please plan vacations and camps accordingly. If all of our Wahoos attend championships we will make a strong showing. Thanks for your continuing support of the Wahoos. Please feel free to contact me at 237-3314 or at BDowling@comey.com with any questions or suggestions. Beth Dowling, Swim Chair DIVING - I am happy to announce that Steve Voellmecke returns as dive coach for his 24th season. Steve is head of Dive Cincinnati, the premier spring board and platform diving instruction facility in Greater Cincinnati. He has coached Indian Hill residents and current nationally competitive divers Ian Ballard, Michael Grainger, Abby Hawkins, Brittany Hill, Emily Hunter, Ann Kenny, Molly Knight, Izzi Krombholz, and Kirtley Krombholz. Kirtley Krombholz, Indian Hill resident and current University of Cincinnati scholarship diver will assist. This year Kirtley qualified for both the Big East Championships and NCAA Zones. She currently holds the one and three-meter records at the Keating Aquatic Center at UC. As a member of IHC Kirtley has won or placed in numerous Seven Hills League Dive Championships. She competed with the Indian Hill High School’s Dive Team and placed 7th, 5th and 6th for three years at the State Championship meets and has twice competed at the AAU Nationals Although the Wahoos finished 2nd at the Champ Meet for the first time in six years, the team had a very good season last summer and we are very excited about the coming year. Last summer the team was smaller than it has been in past years, but we welcomed many new and talented young divers and we hope to recruit even more new talent this summer in our attempt to regain the 7-Hills League Diving Team Title! If you are new to the club or are considering diving for the first time, you will have great fun and will be surprised at how much you will learn in a short time. We have exciting plans for this summer such as our annual trip to Miami University for a fun day at “The Bubble Pool” and many social activities and game days! Parent participation at the meets is essential as well as lots of fun. You will want to be on deck to see your diver in action, and helping with meets will acquaint you with the wonderful sport of springboard diving. Thank you for all your support. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions. Feel free to contact me at 659-5833 or at wfries@landam.com Wini Fries, Dive Chair |
